Process Paper
Why we chose this topic:
We’ve studied the topic of immigration through out school. We have found that immigration had a large impact on the United States. Without immigrants, our country wouldn’t be the same as it is today. Immigration to the United States has been occurring for a very long time, especially during the Progressive Era. During this time mass amounts of immigrants came to the United States. This has spread our interest in this topic.
How we conducted our research:
Our World Civilization teacher allowed us time in class to work on our website. She took our class to the computer lab, and we spent time looking over online sources and pictures about immigration during the Progressive Era. We needed more information, so we went to the library at school to get textual information. After finding the most valuable information, we began to create our website.
How we created our website:
First, we had to find a place where we could make our website. Both of us had used www.weebly.com, so we started from there. We had to set a username and password to get started. Afterwards, we decorated the background and put our pictures in. Then, we began plugging in our information we found in the computer lab and in the library together. Lastly, we cited websites and pictures, and put them in the “Works Cited”.
How our project relates to the theme:
The theme of this years National History Day is Turning Points In History: People, Ideas, and Events. Our website gives information about immigration in the Progressive Era. The website we created relates to the theme in many ways. For example, immigrants from the Progressive Era turned America into a more multi-cultural society with language, traditions, and practices. New immigrants that came in during the Progressive Era brought in different kinds of foods, music, and arts. Without immigrants, we wouldn't have the diverse culture that we do today.
